Case stays closed in 1964 shooting of black woman

The son of a black maid fatally shot during race riots 40 years ago got another rejection in his campaign against three white men originally accused in the murder but never tried for the killing. State Attorney Harry Shorstein wrote the son of Johnnie May Chappell that he is "saddened by this historically tragic loss" but will not reopen the 1964 murder case. [more]
