Ga. Protest in the Rain call for the right to drive-- Immigrants Want Licenses


Hundreds of Hispanics braved a driving rain Thursday to march in front of the state Capitol in support of granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Across the street, a few dozen opponents of the proposal carried American flags and signs saying, "No driver's licenses for illegals" and "Deport illegal aliens." The march went forward despite a drenching rain from Tropical Storm Ivan. Marchers chanted "Si Se Puede" (Yes we can) and covered the sidewalk in front of the Statehouse. . Attempts to secure driver's licenses for illegal immigrants in Georgia have repeatedly failed as the issue has gained little traction in the Georgia Legislature. " Georgia has an estimated 228,000 illegal immigrants.
