Study has grim news on racial profiling in Oregon
About one in five Oregon minorities believe that they have been singled out by police because of their race, according to a new Amnesty International study of racial profiling. According to data collected by the group, of the more than 511,000 black, Hispanic, Asian and multiracial Oregonians, more than 115,000 said they'd been targeted by law enforcement agencies because of their apparent racial background or religious connections. Oregon's overall population is about 3.4 million. Nationally, 32 million people reported being racially profiled, according to the 50-page report, which was based on census figures, recent polls and studies. Oregon has no laws banning racial profiling. Data collection is recommended and conducted in some, but not all, law enforcement agencies.
