Final two defendants sentenced in attack at Denny's restaurant
A man who said he has renounced his white supremacist beliefs was sentenced to two years and eight months in federal prison for his role in a racially motivated attack at a Denny's restaurant. Steven A. Heldenbrand and Kenneth Francis Johnsen, both 27, were sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court. They were the last of five defendants, all of whom pleaded guilty to a federal civil rights charge, to be sentenced in the June 2001 incident. Johnsen, of Hollister, was sentenced to four years and three months. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Jones requested a lesser sentence for Heldenbrand, who cooperated with authorities. The five had been charged with assaulting Maurice Wilson after he and another black man entered the restaurant with two white women. Wilson was stabbed during the altercation but has recovered. [
