Profiling Allegation Angers Nebraska Governor
Nebraska Gov. Mike Johanns is calling a Lincoln Journal Star article about racial profiling, a cheap shot. In the story titled "Patrol Acknowledges Race Profiling," the newspaper reported it had obtained a document from a state patrol meeting last summer. The document, dealing with racial profiling, quotes Nebraska State Patrol Supt. Col. Tom Nesbitt as saying, "We clearly have a problem with a few officers who are not abiding by agency policies." Johanns claims Col. Nesbitt was expressing concern over the issue of profiling and not admitting it was a practice of the patrol. "The colonel drawing this to the attention of his troops and expressing his concern about any issue should never result in a conclusion in a headline. That's unfair." [more ]
