Asian and Latino Voters Could Decide Presidential Election

In a tight November battle between John Kerry and George W. Bush, minority voters may well decide the winner of the 2004 presidential election. A study of the Latino and Asian vote has shown that while Asians make up only 3.1 percent of potential voters, they figure prominently in certain states. They account for two-thirds of voters in Hawaii, 11 percent in California, 6 percent in Nevada and 5 percent in Washington. Furthermore, Latinos make up only 7.8 percent of potential voters around the country, but they stand at more than 5 percent of voters in 15 states, some of them crucial battle grounds.
