Deputies' lawsuit alleges humiliation- 8 say race behind forced lineup

Seven black deputies and one former deputy have filed a federal lawsuit accusing Harris County Sheriff's Department officials of humiliating them in front of fellow officers and jail inmates by forcing them to be photographed for a lineup. The eight were among 16 deputies ordered into the lineup on June 8, 1999, more than three weeks after a woman visiting an inmate at the county jail said she had been sexually assaulted by a black man in a sheriff's uniform, according to the lawsuit.
