Racist Suspect: Buddy Caldwell
/
Information
Offending Conduct: Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell has been a prime movant in holding Albert Woodfox, a former Black Panther, in jail for a murder that he did not commit. Woodfox and the late Herman Wallace, another prisoner of the "Angola 3," were convicted of murdering a guard at Angola Prison. The Angola 3 were framed for their political activism. In 2013, a federal judge ruled that Woodfox should be set free on the basis of racial discrimination in his retrial. In fact it was the third time Woodfox’s conviction had been overturned, but under Caldwell's direction prosecutors have negated the victories with a series of appeals.. In November 2014, a federal appeals court upheld a lower court ruling ordering Louisiana to release Woodfox but the white prosecutor blocked his release yet again with another frivolous appeal. Caldwell said he disagrees with the ruling and his staff "remain committed" to upholding the conviction. [MORE] Woodfox has spent more than 40 years in solitary confinement. [MORE]
Under the pretense of working to obtain justice, Caldwell has purposefully created injustice. This is the ultimate hypocrisy. Although he had the opportunity and the ability to give constructive help to a Non-White person he refused to do so. His speech and conduct directly or indirectly promoted the maintenance of the System of White Supremacy (Racism) in the area of Law and Politics.
