A judge says the elections chief's team didn't subpoena her critics properly. Miriam Oliphant's critics on the Broward County Commission did not violate state law when they failed to testify last week at the trial deciding if she should be reinstated as elections supervisor. Oliphant wanted Steve Kahn, the judge hearing the case for the state Senate, to force them to testify or declare them in contempt after only one showed up to take the stand last week. At the same time, a new fight has developed that could prevent Oliphant from grilling another key participant in her downfall -- Secretary of State Glenda Hood. Hood's lawyers are objecting to her testifying because she is too busy and already gave a sworn deposition. [more]
