Mel Watt wins 12th District Democratic primary

U.S. Rep. Mel Watt won his Democratic primary Tuesday night, easily defeating his same challenger from two years ago. Watt, the only incumbent congressman in North Carolina facing a challenge in the primary, received 24,166 votes, or 85 percent of the vote, with all 183 precincts reporting unofficial results. Kim Holley, who lost to Watt in the 2002 primary, had 4,241 votes, or 15 percent. In November, Watt will face Republican Ada Fisher, who did not have a primary opponent. [more]
