Quanell X faces charge related to fugitive incident

Harris County prosecutors are planning to take the case of Quanell X before a grand jury Wednesday to consider whether the civil rights activist should be indicted for evading arrest. A judge recently rejected his claim that he was arrested wrongfully while driving the shooting suspect to the downtown police station. After a daylong hearing, state District Judge Brock Thomas ruled June 28 that police had probable cause to arrest the activist on a felony charge of evading arrest, punishable by up to two years in a state jail. Quanell X will be back in Judge Thomas' court Thursday for an appearance, but Assistant Harris County District Attorney Denise Nassar said she planned to take the case before a grand jury before then. The grand jury would decide if enough evidence exists to indict him. [more]
