Cops Rally In Support Of New York Officer Who Refused To Arrest Homeless Man

As a police officer who faces dismissal for refusing to arrest a homeless man waits for a hearing, the group 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement and the National Latino Officers Association spoke out in support of him Saturday. Eduardo DelaCruz was suspended for 30 days without pay after a 2002 incident in which he refused to arrest a homeless man who was sleeping in a parking lot. He is charged with refusing to comply with a lawful order, and now he faces an administrative that could result in his losing his job. The NYPD says officers cannot choose which orders to obey. But Eric Adams, the head of 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement, says DelaCruz was only following his conscience and is being unfairly punished. [more]
