Detained Hispanics may be deported

A Hispanic family stopped by authorities on Club Boulevard this week was in the United States illegally and now faces deportation proceedings, a federal immigration spokeswoman said Friday. A Durham County sheriff's deputy stopped the family Thursday morning after someone called 911 in Orange County. The caller reported people of Middle Eastern descent videotaping a tractor-trailer weigh station on Interstate 85 near Buckhorn Road, as well as bridges and overpasses. The family turned out to be taping its vacation as it traveled from Atlanta to New York City. But when the father could not show proof of legal residency, local authorities contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said Sue Brown, a spokeswoman for the federal agency's Atlanta office.
