More Trouble for South LA Hospital

Another setback for the Martin Luther King/Drew Medical Center in South Los Angeles. The hospital is being investigated for mismanagement and negligence that allegedly caused the deaths of five people. Recently, county supervisors proposed to shut down the hospital's trauma center to save the rest of the hospital. And now, King/Drew's accreditation could be revoked after a national accreditation group voted to withdraw its support. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations says the hospital failed to correct severe lapses in patient care. Losing approval could result in the potential loss of doctor training programs and nearly 15 (m) million dollars in private insurance contracts. [more ]
