Miller was Complying with Orders when he got Beat Down by Cops
Stanley Miller was complying with orders when an officer
struck him repeatedly with a heavy flashlight, the federally appointed
monitor overseeing reforms of the Los Angeles Police Department has
said. "From accounts, including a review of the videotape of the
incident, it appears that Mr. Miller was in the process of complying
with the orders of the police when the force was utilized," the report
states. Police Chief William J. Bratton has said he will complete his
investigation by Monday, after which prosecutors will review it. The
federal monitor said that the LAPD was making efforts towards complying
with the law enforcement consent decreee and the LAPD had shown
improvement with regard to investigating wrongdoing. Both of those
issues are collateral to what happened to Stanley Miller and to the
larger problem of LAPD disrespect for the civil rights of Black and
Brown people; whom they are sworn to protect and serve[more ]
The Federal Monitor made no mention of an unedited
and more brutal video recording of the Miller beating. Journalist Betty
Pleasant has claimed that contrary to media and LAPD reports, there is
a nine minute versioin of the beating. The version shown by mainstream media is one or
two minutes long. [more ]
