South Africa Court Frees Mark Thatcher on Conditions

A South African court  released Mark Thatcher Wednesday, but set strict conditions on  his freedom and required him to return to court in November to  face charges he was involved in an Equatorial Guinea coup plot. Thatcher, the son of former British Prime Minister Margaret  Thatcher, was required to remain in his Cape Town home until he  paid a bank guarantee of 2 million rand ($300,000), required by  a deadline of Sept. 8. Police arrested him earlier on charges of involvement in  the Equatorial Coup attempt. But Thatcher, 51, was not required  to plead to specific charges Wednesday and the case was  remanded for further investigation. [more ]
